Something Is Rotten in EPPD
Over the last two days, we have received almost fifty (50) emails from officers within the El Paso Police Department. These emails show the department’s deteriorating morale. They also speak to a larger problem that neither EPPD nor the City of El Paso plans to correct.

EPPD Chief Admits Staffing Concerns
“I want to give you this screenshot of what the chief has sent to all of us. It is really only empty words coming from someone who really doesn’t listen to us. We say we need something, like shields, and he buys us batons. The chief is a hypocrite and this shows you are starting to get to him.”

Better The Devil You Know
Some of us have spoken up, been blocklisted, and made an example for our colleagues. Lt. Rodriguez has no shift that respects him; he only gains any form of reaction from fear of retaliation. Lt. Rodriguez will smirk and grin at you in a defined manner of a smug boy-like demeanor. He believes he is “untouchable,” and the lack of support from our supervisors and the second floor seems to be correct.

Rodriguez was allowed to continue his overtime, hijack a shift meeting to challenge others to box him if they have a problem with overtime, and now use department time and resources for a vendetta over who has provided the Jerusalem Press with four-plus years of his pay.
Not “Protect & Serve,” Rather, “Line My Pockets & Protect Myself.”
An officer who does not care about rules and regulations, violates overtime rules, and threatens to box others is not an officer we need serving us.

The El Paso Police Department allows officers to work overtime and on off-duty assignments, such as security details or traffic control, where they wear their uniforms. These hours are limited, though some officers abuse the system.
