In the letter below, Mr. Rojas is referencing Sergeant Miguel Pacheco: A Bad Example or Pacheco: Pacillas’ Legacy of Action or Inaction
I am writing about an officer you covered in your newspaper, Officer Pacheco.
I had a run in with this officer about two months ago. This officer just happened to be in the place where I called the police from. What happened is that someone pulled a gun on me in a parking lot, then threatened me, and then the wife tried to push me away.
Police came, and they didn’t want to do anything. They kept telling me that it would be my word against the word of these other people. I tried to tell the police that I have cameras in my truck that recorded the whole thing and that the store I was at, this was at a Lowe’s, had cameras all in the partking lot. The police didn’t care.
This man, Pacheco comes driving up, and I guess he was just coming see what was going on, and I tried to talk to him. This policeman is rude and unprofessional. He gets out of his car and he doesn’t even want to talk to me. When he finally did, he didn’t want to do anyting. He asked if I had witnesses he could talk to and I told him about the cameras. He didn’t care.
I read in your article about how they have to have on the body camera. This officer did not have one on. I gave up trying to complain about him because every time I did, the police didn’t want to help or would tell me that there really is nothing they can do.
The police in this city are becoming like they were in the 1980s and part of the 1990s. What are we paying taxes for them if they are not going to do their job. What can we do?
