From An EPPD Officer
The following is from an email sent to us by an El Paso Police Officer. We are publishing it in its entirety.
If you would like to contact us with information, story tips, or letters to the editor use the contact form from the menu at the top of the page.
I have sent you information in the past, and you honored your word by keeping me anonymous. I want to tell you about Camp and other officers.
First, things I have sent you information in the past, and the Chiefs are blaming Camp for what I sent you. They are now saying that they are going to relieve him of duty in the coming days. This does not make sense to me, or anyone else. We are going to lose one of the only officers that really has our back.
I know that Camp filed a hostile work environment against Rodriguez for what he said and did to us at a shooting at 8500 Dyer. The man was acting commander and we had to beg him to come out to the shooting. A man died because we couldn’t get the acting commander out to a mass shooting.
Rodriguez later files a hostile work environment against Camp. Nothing happens with the one Camp filed, but the one Rodriguez filed was acted upon.
They are going to fire a cop because he speaks out. And his wife is a problem with her videos. The Chief wants us no to talk to our wives now.
Next is the Chief himself. He doesn’t know what he is doing. Like the email you published about him not knowing what to do with officer shortages. What would the people of El Paso do if they really knew that there were days in the Northeast when there are only one or two cars on the streets. We cannot protect anyone if we don’t have enough offices on the street. The Chief doesn’t know what he is doing.
Then there is Luna. Luna was just given hours for using a body cam when he went to pick up his child at school. He was in uniform and the Lieutenant told him to use the camera. The Lieutenant of course wouldn’t stand up for his own officer, he just let him get suspended for something he was told he should do.
Last thing is your TikTok on us not doing anything about the guy that broke into your truck. Not touching asylum seekers or people who may be here illegally comes for the top, from the Chief. We can’t arrest them. I remember we made contact with you one night, when you were at a church and there was someone trespassing and tried to come at you with a piece of lumber that had nails in it. Rember when we told you that all we could do was take him to the truck stop and that was it? That’s what the problem is, we can’t do anything.
The people of El Paso need to force some sort of change. Being El Paso, this won’t happen, even if someone dies.
