From a Reader: Make No Mistake

Dear Jerusalem Press (Mr. Zimmerman). I am writing to you and your newspaper in support of the El Paso Police Department. I am not affiliated with any Police organization, but I am an active reader of news, politics, and general current affairs. I do know that the failure of checks and balances exists with a Police Department in all reigns across this country, the El Paso Police Department is no exception. I do believe, however, that the stakes are higher for a smaller Department such as El Paso. How is it even possible for a rogue Lieutenant to continue his public duties? I always believed that the people at the top of an organization always know exactly what is going on, there can be no excuses for this behavior.

There is no doubt in my mind that this has been a career pattern of intimidation and getting away with absolute corruption within the ranks of his unit/shift. I often wonder about the story that you wrote in regards to the same Lieutenant not responding to a call from Officers being faced with an active shooter, how was this allowed to be excused? How is this person allowed to continue to serve? How is the Department spinning this as a favorable outcome? What happened to the Officers who complained? Did the Officers get any formal recognition for their bravery? Did they even get any form of medal or award for doing an outstanding job? Did this Lieutenant get any formal discipline?

How can a department even allow any Lieutenant to work any extra duties in the capacity of a Police Officer if they make $118,000.00? In El Paso to start at a yearly salary? I’m pretty sure most of these public questions will never be answered, I pity the souls who need immediate assistance, and this Lieutenant is working another extra duty you will never get the response as these 8 souls found out the hard way.

My fear factor of a question which I would love to hear from the powers that be is, what if this was the Wamart shooting in El Paso, where was this Lieutenant at this time of the incident taking place? Did he act? Did he take the scenic route to the supermarket? Did he even have any form of urgency?

This insanity has to stop and for all the community who are finding it very difficult to make ends meet and to survive on a pittance of a wage, it is criminal to see a person making well over $118,000.00 for pure greed!

If Donald Trump was the Chief I am sure “You’re Fired” would be the deserving words for all to celebrate! Strip him of his overtime, strip him of his badge, enough is enough….
